CNC Machinist
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated CNC Machinist to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines to produce high-quality precision ceramic components while ensuring safety, quality, and productivity targets are achieved. The job will be a permanent afternoon/late shift role with final hours to be confirmed.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC milling and/or turning machines.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and work instructions.
- Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machine settings.
- Perform machine offsets and make program adjustments where required.
- Conduct first-off inspections and in-process quality checks using measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMM reports.
- Ensure components are manufactured to specification and within defined tolerances.
- Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot machining issues.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and housekeeping activities.
- Record production and quality data accurately.
- Adhere to all company health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
- Work closely with Quality personnel and Production Supervisors to resolve production issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing activities.
Essential Requirements
- 5 years or more experience operating and setting up CNC machines in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Skilled in the use of precision measuring equipment.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, speeds, and feeds.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good problem-solving and communication skills.
- Apprenticeship or formal engineering qualification.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience with Fanuc, Heidenhain, or Mazatrol controls.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
- Experience with multi-axis CNC machines.
- Programming experience would be advantageous.
