About the Role
This highly acclaimed manufacturer is looking for a proactive, Maintenance Engineer to support a highly automated, fast‑moving manufacturing operation. You will be the go‑to person for electrical, controls, and mechanical maintenance, ensuring production assets run safely, efficiently, and with maximum uptime. This role suits an engineer who thrives in a hands‑on environment, enjoys solving complex faults, and can deliver high‑quality maintenance in a modern, technology‑driven facility.
Working the Panama Shift
This position operates on a Panama shift, a rotating 12‑hour pattern designed to provide full 24/7 coverage while giving engineers regular extended breaks. A typical Panama rotation includes:
* Working 2 days, then 2 days off, followed by 3 days on
* The following week: 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off This pattern repeats every 14 days and includes weekends and bank holidays. Engineers benefit from predictable long rest periods while maintaining consistent support for the production operation.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver planned and reactive maintenance across corrugating, converting, and finishing machinery.
* Diagnose electrical and controls faults using PLC/HMI interfaces, instrumentation, I/O checks, and test equipment.
* Maintain and repair motors, drives, sensors, safety circuits, and control panels.
* Carry out mechanical maintenance including bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, and alignment tasks.
* Assist with control system improvements, commissioning activities, and updating technical documentation.
* Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to reduce repeat failures and downtime.
* Keep CMMS records accurate and complete; follow LOTO, isolations, and all electrical safety protocols.
* Work closely with Production teams and oversee contractors when required.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* 3–5 years’ experience in a manufacturing maintenance role.
* Strong electrical fault‑finding capability and confidence working on automated equipment.
* PLC/HMI diagnostic experience (Siemens or Allen Bradley).
* Solid understanding of sensors, instrumentation, and electrical testing.
* Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
* Competent mechanical engineering skills.
* Strong commitment to safe working practices (LOTO, PTW, isolations).
Desirable
* Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, fabrication, or mechanical rebuilds.
* Experience with CI methodologies (TPM, 5S, RCA).
* Ability to mentor apprentices or junior engineers.
Health & Safety
* Compliance with PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, and all site safety procedures.
* Demonstrates a safety‑first mindset and consistent use of PPE.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent.
* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (or willingness to obtain) Only candidates based in UK and eligible to work in UK are allowed
