This is a genuinely hands-on and varied role where you will take ownership of maintaining specialist fabrication machinery alongside the wider site and facilities. You'll be the person helping to keep production moving, responding to breakdowns when they happen and making sure machinery is properly maintained to minimise downtime. No two days are likely to be exactly the same, so this would suit someone who is comfortable prioritising their own workload, solving problems and turning their hand to whatever needs attention. The Role As Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for the reliable operation and upkeep of both the manufacturing equipment and the wider site. Your responsibilities will include: Carrying out planned preventative maintenance across UPVC fabrication and production machinery Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults to minimise production downtime Responding quickly and effectively to machinery breakdowns Fault-finding on a range of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems Maintaining specialist machinery including saws, cutting equipment, welding machinery, routing equipment and similar fabrication machinery Supporting the installation, commissioning and relocation of machinery when required Completing maintenance records and ensuring service schedules are kept up to date Liaising with machinery suppliers and external contractors where necessary Maintaining site services including lighting, heating, compressed air systems and other utilities Carrying out general building, facilities and site maintenance Completing minor repairs to fixtures, equipment and the wider facility Supporting health and safety inspections and ensuring work is completed safely and in line with company procedures Looking after workshop tools, maintenance equipment and relevant spare parts Identifying opportunities to improve machinery reliability, reduce downtime and improve operational efficiency Supporting machinery upgrades and continuous improvement projects Monitoring spare parts requirements and helping to maintain appropriate stock levels What We're Looking For We're looking for an experienced maintenance professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment. You will ideally have: Proven experience within a Maintenance Engineer, Site Engineer or similar engineering maintenance role Strong mechanical maintenance, fault-finding and repair experience Good electrical fault-finding ability Experience maintaining industrial or production machinery The ability to diagnose faults and work through problems logically and independently Experience working with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and ideally hydraulic systems The ability to read and understand technical drawings, manuals and equipment documentation Good organisation and record-keeping skills A practical and hands-on approach to engineering and maintenance The ability to manage your own workload and prioritise breakdowns and planned maintenance effectively A full UK driving licence Experience within UPVC window and door manufacturing would be highly beneficial, particularly if you have worked on fabrication machinery such as cutting, welding, corner cleaning, routing or CNC equipment. Experience with Stiga saws, WindMac machinery or similar specialist UPVC fabrication equipment would also be a strong advantage. Electrical qualifications such as City & Guilds, NVQ, 18th Edition or equivalent would be beneficial, as would experience working with PLC-controlled machinery.
