Lead reliability, compliance, and performance in a high-hazard environment
About the Role We’re seeking a proactive and experienced Maintenance Manager to lead the strategic direction and daily operations of the site-wide maintenance function at our chemical manufacturing facility in Bradford.
This senior management position spans Mechanical and EC&I disciplines, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-effective plant performance in a regulated, high-hazard (COMAH) environment. You’ll manage a team of leaders and technicians, oversee contractor performance, and deliver a robust maintenance strategy aligned with safety, reliability, and business goals.
Key Responsibilities
* Leadership & Strategy: Develop and deliver a long-term maintenance strategy focused on reliability, compliance, and asset lifecycle management.
* Team Management: Lead and develop a team of 30+ across Mechanical and EC&I Maintenance, driving accountability, engagement, and performance.
* Safety & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with COMAH regulations, statutory inspections, and permit-to-work processes. Champion a safety-first culture through visible leadership and HSE interventions.
* Maintenance & Shutdowns: Oversee all planned and unplanned maintenance activities, including major shutdowns, ensuring delivery to budget, time, and safety targets.
* Reliability & Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with reliability engineers to analyse failure data, implement improvement plans, and drive KPIs such as availability, MTBF, and cost efficiency.
* Budget & Contractor Oversight: Manage maintenance budgets, optimise spend, and ensure contractors meet strict safety and performance standards.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the maintenance function in leadership forums and cross-functional projects, aligning with Operations, Engineering, HSE, and Projects teams.
About You
* Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Maintenance Engineering (or equivalent).
* Proven experience in senior maintenance leadership within a regulated, high-hazard or COMAH environment.
* Strong understanding of safety legislation, asset care, and contractor management.
* Skilled in SAP (or similar), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM), and lean maintenance methodologies.
* Excellent communicator and strategic thinker with the ability to lead through change.
