Job Description - Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician Apprentice (Level 3)

About The Role

The apprenticeship is a Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Technician course with a dual skilled (electromechanical) pathway, which is 3 years in duration. The first year will be completed at Gloucestershire Engineering Training in Gloucester, after which you will be located at SkyDiamond based in Woodchester (Stroud). During your first year, however, you will be required to work in SkyDiamond from time to time, so you can build working relationships with your team.

Once you complete the first year and are based at SkyDiamond as a maintenance technician, you can expect to be involved in activities such as checking equipment, reporting faults, operating various plant, fault finding and diagnosing faults, mixing chemical feeds, replacing electrical and mechanical components, etc. Health and Safety is an essential part of the role and you’ll be expected to write risk assessments and procedures, work with high pressure gas systems, liaise with contactors, etc.
At SkyDiamond we always strive for continuous improvement and are also involved in research and development. There may also be occasional travel, normally within Europe.

Along with mandatory manual handling etc, other courses will be offered, such as forklift, first aid and gas/cryogenic training. Further personal development is also important within Sky, and opportunity to undertake courses for this is openly discussed and encouraged by line managers.

Analytical mind with a keen eye for detail to help with fault finding and operating our bespoke plant equipment
Logical thinking ability as well as enjoying research
Able to complete tasks accurately and in a timely manner
Good relationship building skills in order to work effectively with people at all levels of the organisation
Good communication skills, verbal and written
Self-motivation, initiative and energy with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

Apprenticeships are funded by the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), an executive agency of the Department for Education. To be eligible for a government-funded apprenticeship you must have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 consecutive years.

Entry requirement is 3 GCSEs at grade 4-9 (C or higher) including Mathematics, English and Science, or equivalent or relevant experience. If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
