Management Accountant

Gifford and Partners have been retained exclusively to appoint a new position of Management Accountant as a result of strong growth and new client wins in this SME business. The role of Management Accountant is like a Finance Manager overseeing a broad role, but with the support and mentoring of an experienced ACA Finance Director to accelerate this role in becoming the future FC. Positioned within an SME that has shown strong performance, consistent profitability in a well-established family-run Manufacturing business based in South Leeds. this is a hands-on role that requires someone willing to roll up their sleeves and equally support further growth and strategy of this business.

As a Management Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Finance Director with all aspects of the accounting function. This varied position will suit a proactive, commercially aware professional who thrives in a dynamic SME environment undergoing growth and change.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supporting the month-end management accounts process, including balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and stock provisions.
• Overseeing Purchase Ledger, Payroll, Banking, and accounting entries to TB stage.
• Preparing and processing monthly payrolls across the group, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
• Conducting month-end bank reconciliations and preparing supplier payment runs.
• Generating and reconciling sales invoices, including commercial invoicing for goods shipped internationally.
• Preparing VAT returns, payroll reconciliations, and handling customs declarations where required.
• Producing monthly sales and margin reports and undertaking ad-hoc reporting tasks.

Experience and background:

• Proven experience in a similar role within a small, busy finance team-ideally within a manufacturing or SME environment.
• High attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with various departments.
• Enthusiastic, committed, and proactive approach, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

This role would suit an individual who is either Part-Qualified (PQ), qualified or equivalent and who has a desire to push on to become a Financial Controller. A strong desire to be fully immersed in a business, picking up the detail and being hands-on work, but equally supporting cashflow and transparency and being the number two to the FD in a thriving SME business.
