Job Description - Managing Director - Airworld



Who we are


Airworld Airlines Ltd, part of the PrimeFlight group, is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our leadership team as the Managing Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of a running a specialized cargo business within the aviation industry in the UK; providing strategic direction to the operation, growing the strengthening the business and fostering exceptional customer relations. The role will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing strategies aimed at optimizing the company's operations, performance thereby contributing to its overall success.



Your tasks


  • Direct activities of the operation & managers, to affect positive change within the division, while promoting adherence to the company policies and procedures
  • Build on and develop Cargo Handling opportunities within the UK Cargo handling business
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand services or win new airline contracts.
  • Manage, mentor, lead and develop the team, supporting a predominantly frontline workforce
  • Develop and implement the overall strategic plan for the cargo division, ensuring alignment with the company’s broader goals and objectives
  • Oversee day-to-day cargo operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance with industry regulations
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to set performance goals and identify growth opportunities
  • Support / guide and mentor the Operational Management team. Support internal departments and teams within the Business including finance, sales, contracts, human resources, and vendors
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement for sustained performance
  • Full P&L Accountability, oversee the financial performance and process improvements within the business, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting ensuring cost efficiency and profitability
  • Monitor financial performance, identify variances, and implement corrective actions
  • Work with the finance team to ensure accurate financial accountability, reporting and forecasting
  • Improve productivity by introducing Technology/SMART systems and rostering solutions.
  • Develop strategy for Continuous Improvement solutions.
  • Monitor KPIs such as tonnage handled, turnaround times, customer satisfaction, and SLA compliance.
  • In conjunction with CCO negotiate commercial agreements with airline customers and logistics partners. Property development opportunities, Supplier agreements and purchase/lease agreements.
  • Support budget process, financial reviews and reporting.
  • Support and ensure full compliance with aviation security, dangerous goods handling, customs, and health & safety regulations, all company policies, and safety standards
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability in all cargo operations.
  • Act as the point of contact for audits and inspections by Government authorities and airline customers
  • Develop and implement operational strategies that improve service levels, cost efficiency, and cargo throughput within the UK and other regions.
  • Contribute to network planning and infrastructure investment decisions, including facility upgrades and equipment acquisition.
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks
  • Develop and maintain contingency plans for business continuity
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, including suppliers, partners, and customers
  • Lead and develop managers, supervisors, and all staff
  • Oversee training requirements, support performance reviews.
  • Guidance on workforce planning/ rostering to meet seasonal and business demands and requirements.
  • Foster a high-performance, performing environment focused on continuous improvement and customer service.
  • Work with leadership team on Employee / Union related issues fostering good Employee working relationships.
  • Build strong relationships with Airlines, airline cargo departments, freight forwarders, general sales agents {GSA} UKBF / customs, and airport authorities.
  • Ensure timely and effective resolution of Customer service issues, claims, and disruptions.
  • Represent the company in LHR / HAL cargo committee meetings, airport forums, and industry bodies/events




Your profile


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Operations Management or related field preferred or ten plus years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
  • Proven experience in a senior operations management role, preferably in a similar industry
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing large teams
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Track Record of driving operational improvements and achieving performance goals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Personality and a can-do attitude are key to success, being able to lead by example, coach, mentor, and inspire the team and other stakeholders, building the brand through trust and authenticity.
  • Role is based in London Heathrow, but with travel as required
  • Virtual and flexible working is a part of this role (all subject to business needs)
  • Can obtain security clearance and qualify for an air-side security pass (no legal restrictions)
  • Possesses a valid driving license
