The Company:
Theo James Recruitment is proud to be supporting an established heavy engineering business looking to expand its workshop team with an experienced Manual Machinist.
The company operates a substantial engineering facility containing a mixture of specialist, large-scale and traditional machine tools. The workshop undertakes varied engineering work, including component repair, refurbishment and machining.
They are now looking for a Manual Machinist to provide additional capacity within the workshop and support their experienced machining team.
Job Description:
As a Manual Machinist, you will work across a range of traditional manual machinery, supporting both milling and turning operations.
The workshop operates older, proven engineering equipment including Dean Smith & Grace machinery and a suite of Webster & Bennett borers, alongside larger specialist machines.
The position will involve:

Setting and operating manual lathes and milling machines
*
Carrying out general manual machining operations
*
Machining valve plugs and similar engineering components
*
Turning components typically ranging from approximately 200mm to 300mm in diameter
*
Setting jobs independently and machining components accurately
The company has specialist machinists available for its largest equipment, so the Manual Machinist will primarily provide additional capability across general milling, turning and manual machining operations.
Skills & Experience:
The ideal Manual Machinist will have:

Previous manual machining experience
*
Experience setting and operating manual lathes
*
Manual milling experience
*
Good all-round traditional machining knowledge
*
The ability to set jobs independently
*
Experience with Dean Smith & Grace or Webster & Bennett machinery would be advantageous
You do not need to be a specialist on every machine. The company is particularly interested in finding an experienced Manual Machinist who can confidently handle general workshop machining and work alongside its specialist operators.
