The London Borough of Havering is looking to recruit a committed and reliable Manual Operative (Permanent Supported Employment) to join our team at Avelon Road Centre.

This rewarding role offers an opportunity to develop workplace skills, increase independence and make a valuable contribution to our day service for adults with learning disabilities. As part of a supportive team, you will help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for the people who use the Centre every day. 

The Opportunity

Working as a Supported Employee Cleaning Operative, you will undertake a range of cleaning duties across the Centre, ensuring that activity rooms, offices, kitchens, toilets and communal areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene. 

Key responsibilities include:

• Cleaning rooms, offices, kitchens, toilets and communal areas.
• Sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors.
• Dusting and cleaning furniture, fixtures and equipment.
• Emptying bins and disposing of waste appropriately.
• Replenishing cleaning supplies and consumables where required.
• Following daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
• Reporting maintenance issues, hazards and safety concerns promptly.
• Using cleaning equipment safely and storing cleaning materials securely.
• Working in accordance with Health and Safety and infection control procedures.
• Treating clients, visitors and colleagues with dignity, courtesy and respect. 

About You

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and is keen to contribute positively to the day-to-day running of the Centre.

You will have:

• The ability to carry out basic cleaning duties.
• The ability to follow instructions and work safely.
• Good attendance, punctuality and reliability.
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and a respectful approach to others.
• A willingness to learn new skills and undertake training.
• A commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. 

The following would be advantageous:

• Previous cleaning experience.
• Experience of working within a Day Service for Adults with Learning Disabilities.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety practices.
• Experience of using commercial cleaning equipment.
