As a Manufacturing Automation Engineer, you will play a hands-on engineering and consulting role within a collaborative Digital Solutions team, supporting the delivery of automation, Industry 4.0 and digital transformation projects that drive operational excellence and sustainable growth across global manufacturing environments. Working alongside manufacturing and operational teams, you will assess automation opportunities, design and deliver pilot solutions, and help establish repeatable patterns that accelerate adoption across operating companies.

This is a practical, technically oriented role suited to engineers with experience in manufacturing automation, MES/SCADA, IIoT, edge/AI, and related technologies, and who enjoy working directly with operational stakeholders to deliver meaningful process improvements.

You'll have the opportunity to:
• Lead and deliver manufacturing automation pilots at cell, line or departmental level
• Assess manufacturing operations and recommend innovation opportunities
• Design and implement lightweight proofs of concept to validate technology choices
• Define reference architectures and reusable approaches across MES, SCADA, IIoT, robotics and data solutions
• Work with internal teams, external partners and integrators to deliver robust automation outcomes
• Mentor junior analysts and support transfer of knowledge to OpCo teams
• Contribute to group-level standards, playbooks and pattern libraries to scale best practices

Your Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with Senior Solutions Architects and Digital Solutions team members to shape scalable, secure solutions
• Run diagnostics and opportunity assessments onsite to identify automation and data improvement areas
• Lead pilot delivery, demonstrating value and de-risking future roll-outs
• Produce clear handover artefacts including architecture views and documentation
• Maintain alignment with OT/IT, safety and cyber standards in all solutions
• Manage stakeholders across multiple sites and influence technical decisions
• Support partner and vendor engagement through informed technical leadership
• Share lessons learned and assist in building reusable assets across the organisation

Key Requirements:
• 3-6 years' relevant experience in manufacturing automation, Industry 4.0 or operations engineering
• Exposure to MES, SCADA, PLCs, IIoT or industrial data systems
• Practical experience working in factory or operational environments
• Ability to translate operational challenges into technical automation solutions
• Comfort with multi-site engagement and stakeholder communication
• Willingness to travel to operating company locations as required
• Excellent communication skills with ability to engage both technical teams and senior decision-makers

You will gain exposure with:
• MES/SCADA and industrial automation technologies
• IIoT, edge computing, robotics and AI-assisted manufacturing enhancements
• Global manufacturing operations and cross-site optimisation initiatives
• Agile collaboration with digital, engineering and operational stakeholders
• Reusable industrial automation patterns and scalability frameworks

Why Join?:
• Work with a technology group named one of Britain's Most Admired Companies
• Lead impactful, hands-on automation and Industry 4.0 projects that drive measurable operational value
• Collaborate with high-performing engineering and digital teams in a supportive, agile environment
• Shape scalable solutions that are adopted across diverse global manufacturing sites
• Be part of an organisation committed to innovation, diversity and continuous learning
