To expand our infrastructure business across the UK and Ireland, we are looking for a Market director to join us. Working on rail, roads, ports and marine, and aviation, you’ll develop our client and contractor portfolio, shape market priorities and lead opportunities from early engagement through capture and bidding. Reporting into the Senior Market director, you’ll also work closely with technical and delivery leaders across the UK business and COWI Group, maintaining client continuity through project delivery.

Your key responsibilities will be:

• Shape market strategy and growth: Contribute to COWI UK’s market leadership team and develop and implement focused strategies and action plans to meet growth targets across the UK and Ireland.


• Build client and contractor relationships: Develop trusted networks with clients, contractors and partners, including partnerships that create design and build opportunities.


• Develop a qualified pipeline: Identify and shape opportunities early, maintain an up-to-date pipeline for your focus areas across the UK and Ireland, and apply the Go / No Go process.


• Lead capture and bids: Develop work-winning strategies for major and regional opportunities and deliver high-quality proposals with technical colleagues and the Bid Support Team.


• Shape compelling commercial offers: Work with Executing Unit leads to develop commercial propositions that align client needs with contractual, financial and delivery considerations.


• Manage key accounts and frameworks: Lead selected client accounts and framework management activities, maintaining customer focus and continuity through delivery.


• Connect market insight with technical expertise: Share customer and market knowledge with Executing Unit leads across the UK business and COWI Group and identify technical development needs for line management.

What success looks like: A stronger qualified pipeline, improved conversion of priority opportunities, deeper client and contractor relationships, and growth supported by effective account and framework management.

On top of that, you’ll have: 

• Demonstrated success in engineering-focused business development, including consultancy work secured and strategies delivered that support revenue growth.


• A solid background in at least one of our infrastructure markets: rail, roads, ports and marine, or aviation.


• Experience leading capture strategies, major proposals and market initiatives within consulting or engineering.


• An established network of relevant clients, contractors and partners, and the ability to build trusted relationships that support COWI’s growth in the UK and Ireland.


• Sound commercial judgement and an understanding of consultancy contracts, risk and financial performance.


• The ability to manage work-winning activity collaboratively and coordinate technical, commercial and delivery colleagues.

Desirable experience and qualifications

• Previous experience as an engineer within an engineering consultancy, contractor or client organisation.


• Chartered engineer status is desirable rather than essential.
