About the Role

We are seeking a resilient, motivated and passionate Maths Behaviour HLTA to deliver engaging GCSE Maths resit sessions to learners with high behavioural needs. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is committed to supporting learners who may have faced barriers to education and who require a structured, supportive and consistent approach to learning.

The successful candidate will be confident in managing challenging behaviour, building positive relationships with learners and creating a learning environment where students can develop their mathematical skills, improve their confidence and work towards achieving their GCSE Maths qualification.

You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, differentiated maths lessons that meet learners' individual needs, while maintaining high expectations for behaviour, attendance, engagement and achievement.

Key Responsibilities

Planning and delivering lessons: Create detailed, engaging and differentiated lesson plans for GCSE Maths resit learners, adapting teaching approaches to meet a range of abilities and learning needs.

Behaviour management: Effectively manage high levels of challenging behaviour using consistent boundaries, clear expectations and positive behaviour management strategies.

Teaching and learning: Deliver engaging maths sessions covering key GCSE topics, including number, algebra, ratio, geometry, statistics and problem-solving.

Building relationships: Develop positive, professional relationships with learners, encouraging trust, respect, motivation and a positive attitude towards education.

Supporting learners with additional needs: Adapt lessons and resources to support learners with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties, as well as gaps in prior learning.

Monitoring progress: Assess learners' understanding, track progress and identify areas requiring further intervention or additional support.

Exam preparation: Prepare learners for GCSE Maths resit examinations through targeted revision, exam-style questions, mock assessments and focused intervention.

Creating resources: Develop appropriate teaching materials, worksheets, starter activities, plenaries and individual learning resources.

Promoting engagement: Use creative and practical teaching strategies to encourage participation, improve attendance and reduce disengagement.

Maintaining a safe learning environment: Follow safeguarding procedures, behaviour policies, health and safety guidance and organisational expectations.

Working collaboratively: Liaise with tutors, behaviour teams, pastoral staff, support workers and other professionals to ensure learners receive consistent support.

Essential Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

Experience working with learners who display challenging or high-risk behaviours.

Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm, professional and consistent under pressure.

A good understanding of GCSE Maths, ideally with experience supporting or delivering maths resit provision.

The ability to plan, prepare and deliver structured, differentiated lessons.

Excellent communication, relationship-building and conflict-resolution skills.

The confidence to set boundaries, challenge inappropriate behaviour and de-escalate difficult situations safely.

A patient, resilient and flexible approach to supporting learners with complex barriers to education.

The ability to motivate disengaged learners and promote positive attitudes towards learning.

A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and improving educational outcomes for all learners.

A relevant HLTA qualification, teaching qualification or substantial experience in a similar educational setting would be advantageous.

Personal Attributes

We are looking for someone who is:

Resilient, proactive and solution-focused.

Confident in managing challenging classroom environments.

Passionate about helping learners overcome barriers to education.

Organised, with strong lesson-planning and preparation skills.

Able to balance empathy and understanding with firm, consistent boundaries.

Creative in adapting teaching methods to engage learners who may struggle in a traditional classroom setting.

Committed to raising aspirations, improving achievement and helping learners progress into further education, training or employment.
