Former REME mechanic or armed forces technician required to work as a Technical Author supporting MOD equipment and programmes. Use your understanding of how equipment is operated, maintained and repaired to produce clear, accurate technical documentation.
This growing organisation produces technical documentation for the maintenance, operation and support of defence assets. If your service experience includes following military publications, interpreting engineering information or explaining maintenance procedures, this role offers a way to apply that knowledge in a civilian setting while staying connected to defence engineering. Relevant backgrounds include REME, Royal Navy, RAF and other Army technical roles, as well as Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), technical training, military publications, technical libraries and engineering support.
What You'll Be Doing
·Visit military and defence customer sites, using your technical understanding to gather, interpret and collate source information for MOD documentation.
·Work with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and engineering teams to produce and update operation manuals, maintenance documentation, Illustrated Parts Catalogues, ILS elements, safety information and training media.
·Turn complex engineering information into clear, practical instructions that equipment users and maintainers can follow confidently.
·Apply a thorough, detail-focused approach to ensure publications meet MOD and company standards and are delivered within agreed timelines.
A full security clearance will be required.
What You'll Bring
·A mechanical, electrical or electronic engineering background. Practical experience gained as a REME mechanic or in another armed forces engineering, maintenance or equipment-support role is welcomed.
·Experience working with technical publications, ideally military formats such as AESPs, BRs or APs, including using them to maintain, operate or support equipment or deliver technical training.
·Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the attention to detail needed to explain technical tasks clearly and accurately.
·The ability to analyse and evaluate complex technical information and turn it into straightforward guidance for others.
·Confidence speaking with customers, engineers and other stakeholders, asking the right questions to gather accurate technical information.
Full UK driving licence.
·Former REME and other armed forces technical personnel are encouraged to apply and show how their maintenance, equipment-support, technical training or publications experience matches the role. Relevant experience from the MOD, defence contractors, ILS or technical library work is also welcomed.
