Wakefield Council are looking for 7 Mechanic Vehicle & Plant Craftsperson to join our Transport Services Team. This is a development role with career progression opportunities based on knowledge, skills, and experience. The role involves maintaining roadworthiness and mechanical safety standards for various fleets, contributing to the Council's climate action goals, and supporting fleet decarbonisation.

• Carry out statutory inspections, maintenance, and repairs to vehicles, plant, and equipment.
• Perform MOT/Taxi tests independently in the MOT Vehicle Testing Station (VTS) to DVSA and Council standards.
• Conduct roadworthiness and safety checks on hired vehicles.
• Diagnose mechanical and electronic faults using computer-based and vehicle-based diagnostic systems.
• Provide out-of-hours cover for winter maintenance and assist in breakdown cover for vehicles, plant, and horticultural machinery.
• Operate computer-controlled systems for diagnostics, brake testing, emissions testing, and maintenance recording.
• Inspect, service, maintain, and repair vehicles, plant, and horticultural machinery in various locations to high standards.
• Drive all classes of vehicles and plant for which licensed, ensuring compliance with driver’s hours regulations and maintaining accurate records.

• City and Guilds level 1 and 2 or NVQ level 2 in motor vehicle engineering or equivalent trade.
• NVQ 2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Awareness or equivalent.
• Demonstrable post-apprentice experience in Large Goods Vehicle, Light Goods, or Horticultural Machinery Maintenance.
• Category B Driving Licence.
• Willingness to train to meet the requirements of level 2.
• For higher levels: NVQ level 3 in motor vehicle engineering or equivalent, NVQ 3 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities, Category C LGV Driving Licence.
