Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Overview:

An opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing product development team within a medium-sized R&D department. This team is responsible for the design and engineering of high-performance electronic products used in marine and subsea environments across international markets.

In this role, you will focus on the mechanical design and development of next-generation products for both current and emerging markets. Using 3D CAD software, you will create and refine product designs, produce detailed manufacturing drawings, and contribute to prototyping and design validation. The position also offers potential to expand into simulation work using tools such as FEA and CFD. Additionally, the role includes providing mechanical engineering support to the production team for ongoing product improvement and issue resolution.

This position is ideal for a practically-minded individual with a keen eye for detail, a strong interest in CAD-based design, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using 3D solid modelling

• Produce technical drawings and documentation for manufacturing

• Support prototyping, testing, and design validation activities

• Collaborate with colleagues across engineering, production, and supply chain teams

• Assist in resolving mechanical design issues during manufacturing and assembly

• Potential to contribute to advanced simulation and analysis work (FEA/CFD)

Requirements:

• Qualification at Level 5/6 in a Mechanical Engineering discipline (e.g. HND or Bachelor's degree)

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a relevant mechanical design role

• Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling and detailed technical drafting

• Strong organisational and self-management skills

• Effective communication skills for working with internal teams, suppliers, and customers

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with SolidWorks for 3D modelling and drafting

• Familiarity with assembling complex mechanical systems, machining, or hands-on fitting

• Experience with plastics, resins, adhesives, or optomechanical systems

• Exposure to rendering tools and rapid prototyping technologies
