Mechanical Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities

Research and Discovery

o Requirements gathering

o Research (technologies, materials, science, manufacturing expectation)

o Creation of system (block) diagrams for communication to stakeholders

o Identification of risk, hazards, environment and (territories)

Concept Generation and Development

o Create concept sketches or block CAD either collaboratively within a team or independently.

o Critique and discuss the concepts of peers and colleagues.

o Take part in brainstorming and contribute ideas.

o Read and understand a client brief to take the elements of that client brief and turn into a set of viable concepts.

CAD Models Assembly, Drawings

o Create engineering CAD parts and assemblies.

o Create drawing sets and the bounds and rules set out by our internal guidance.

o Perform self-checks on work paying attention to design for excellence and readiness for reviews.

o Assess suitability for manufacture

Prototyping, Testing and Transfer to Manufacture

o Create complex POC/Prototypes.

o Support engineers in transfer to manufacture

Design Documentation and Reporting

o Maintaining accurate and up-to-date technical documentation

o Ensuring adherence to QMS processes and identified compliance standards

o Ensuring quality standard of any design outputs issued to clients or suppliers

o Produce and present material to both internal and external audiences

Requirements & Skills

· Minimum 3 years industry experience (excludes University course time)

· High level of confidence to reliably deliver prototype and production designs that meet or exceed customer specifications

· Ability to identify technical risks in a project

· Able to identify and clearly communicate technical issues, come up with solutions to minimise impact on project timelines.

· Able to use design tools like Solidworks

· Advanced user of MS applications including Excel, PowerPoint and Word

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications

· Bachelor's honours degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

· A Master's degree is preferred
