Job Description - Mechanical Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Team here at AUEM. Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering you will be working closely with the Operations, Quality and Supply Chain teams. You will be a proactive Mechanical Engineer who takes ownership of problems, drives solutions, and follows through to implementation. We value engineers who take initiative, challenge the status quo constructively, and deliver outcomes, not just analysis.

Allied Universal Electronic Monitoring is the industry leading technology and service company offering law enforcement and government agencies the widest variety of cutting-edge monitoring solutions. Operating in over 35 countries, we leverage an international network of expertise and resources in order to deliver a unique solution. With nearly 30 years of industry experience in providing innovative technology solutions and first-class service, our latest electronic monitoring technologies provide solutions that aim to ensure the safety of our communities, provide an alternative to incarceration, reduce prison, overcrowding, lower recidivism and improve reintegration. We enable our customers to effectively monitor approximately 140,000 participants every day. This includes many of the world's largest electronic monitoring programs.

This is a hands-on role operating at the interface of engineering and operations.

You will be expected to independently investigate issues, develop practical solutions, align stakeholders, and execute improvements that deliver measurable impact.

This is not a purely design-focused position. Success in this role comes from action, accountability, and delivery.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Take ownership of engineering issues from identification through resolution

  • Investigate problems on the shop floor and in the field using structured approaches (RCA, 5Wys, etc.)

  • Develop clear, practical solutions into actionable work plans and deliver them

  • Support production by resolving mechanical and electro-mechanical issues quickly and effectively

  • Produce and improve designs for manufacturability, reliability, and cost

  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation (BoM, drawings, change records)

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Quality and Supply Chain

What we are looking for:

  • Ownership mindset - takes responsibility for problems and drives them to closure

  • Proactive approach - does not wait for direction, investigates and proposes solutions

  • Structured thinking - able to break down complex problems and communicate clearly

  • Delivery focus - follow through on commitments agreed with HoE, and meets deadlines

  • Resilience and composure - operates effectively in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment

Technical Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), preferably with chartership status (but not necessarily)

  • Experience in a manufacturing, production, or operations environment

  • Strong problem-solving skills with practical application

  • Experienced with CAD (Solid Works or similar)

  • Understanding of BoMs, engineering drawings gates system, and change control

  • Familiar with DfMA principle

What Will Make You Stand-Out:

  • Proven examples of solving real product or production issues (end-to-end)

  • Experience implementing improvements (not just recommending them)

  • Exposure to electro-mechanical and electronic products

  • Lean / Continuous Improvement experience.

What we offer

  • Salary: Competitive

  • Working Model: Whilst the role is considered site based we do enjoy some hybrid working around business needs.

  • Time Off: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with option to buy 5 additional days based on eligibility.

  • Pension - Generous pension scheme.

  • Health & Security: Life insurance (Death in Service) scheme and company sick pay (based on length of employment).

  • Everyday perks: Access to our company benefits portal through Perks at Work, which includes offerings like eye care vouchers, discounted vouchers for major retailers, and much more.

Next Steps & Requirements
