Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Suffolk / East Anglia

Salary: £36,000 - £49,500 + Comprehensive Benefits Package

About the Role

An established engineering and technology business is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects, supporting the development of bespoke mechanical solutions from concept through to manufacture, installation, and client acceptance.

Working alongside experienced engineers, you will play a key role in the design process while developing your technical and project management capabilities within a collaborative and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Support the delivery of mechanical design projects while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Apply mechanical engineering principles to develop practical and innovative design solutions.

Assist with the design and development of products and systems throughout the project lifecycle.

Stay current with emerging technologies, engineering trends, and industry best practices.

Support improvements to engineering processes, products, and documentation.

Take ownership of project elements and smaller projects under the guidance of senior engineers.

Assist in resolving technical challenges through engineering analysis and problem-solving.

Contribute to tender and bid activities, including concept generation, risk assessments, cost estimates, and scheduling.

Produce and review engineering drawings, models, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).

Support concept development, detailed design, design reviews, and production release activities.

Create visualisations and design presentations to support internal reviews and client approvals.

Participate in site surveys, client meetings, and project coordination activities where required.

Assist with technical documentation, compliance records, operating manuals, and project handover documentation.

Support manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities.

Provide engineering support for existing products and legacy equipment.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Support and mentor junior team members where appropriate.

Skills & Experience

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

Experience within a mechanical design, manufacturing, or engineering project environment.

Proficient in 3D CAD software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, Siemens NX, AutoCAD, or similar.

Strong understanding of engineering drawings, manufacturing methods, and design principles.

Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams and with clients.

Experience supporting projects through multiple phases of the engineering lifecycle.

Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
