Are you a skilled Mechanical Engineer who thrives on solving problems, maintaining complex equipment, and ensuring essential systems operate at their best? If you’re looking for a hands-on role where your expertise genuinely matters, this could be the opportunity for you.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-focused Mechanical Engineer/Fitter to join our team, working on vital mechanical infrastructure across industrial, commercial, and defence environments.

About The Role

As a Mechanical Engineer working in a team of 3, you will manage the installation, maintenance, and repair of essential mechanical plant and equipment, ensuring that all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in line with regulatory requirements. The role involves working with a range of mechanical systems including pumps, motors, cooling towers, air handling units (AHUs), and generators. Your work will directly contribute to the operational reliability and performance of key infrastructure.

The successful candidate will assemble and install mechanical plant such as pumps, motors, cooling towers, AHUs, and generators, ensuring all installations meet required specifications and safety standards.

You will carry out planned preventative maintenance in accordance with MOD JSP 375 for defence-related equipment and SFG20 Planned Maintenance Specification for commercial building systems, helping to ensure equipment operates at peak performance while minimising downtime.

A core part of the role involves diagnosing and resolving mechanical faults across a range of systems. You will investigate issues affecting pumps, motors, cooling towers, AHUs, and generators, implementing effective solutions to restore performance and prevent recurrence. When faults occur, you will undertake repair work on systems and components, replacing or refurbishing parts as required to return equipment to full working order.

You will also maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repair work to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal procedures. Throughout all tasks, strict adherence to health, safety, and operational regulations will be essential in maintaining a safe and compliant working environment.

What you’ll need

You will need a HNC qualification in Mechanical Engineering or similar. It is essential that you have experience working on commercial buildings.

You will have a strong understanding of mechanical plant and systems, particularly pumps, motors, cooling towers, air handling units, and generators. Experience working in accordance with MOD JSP 375 and SFG20 Planned Maintenance Specification is highly desirable.

You should possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose faults efficiently and implement practical solutions. A high level of attention to detail is important to ensure all installations, maintenance, and repairs meet industry standards and compliance requirements.

You must be able to pass DV Clearance to be eligible for this role.

We offer;

  • 6% employee matched pension contribution

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays

  • Life assurance policy
