Position: Mechanical Maintenance Engineer Location: Poole Salary: £47,000 + Bonus + Overtime (OTE £60,000) Shift Pattern: Panama- 12-hour shifts covering days, nights, and weekends, averaging 42 hours per week
About the Role A leading global organisation in sustainable food packaging is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join its high-performing engineering team. This is a key role where you'll be responsible for maintaining and optimising site machinery to ensure smooth, efficient operations in a dynamic production environment.
Key Responsibilities * Follow all Health & Safety, Hygiene, Quality, and Environmental policies and procedures. * Conduct regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and servicing of mechanical equipment as directed by the PPM schedule. * Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults quickly to minimise downtime. * Repair or replace defective parts on a wide range of machinery, including extruders, conveyors, compressors, pumps, motors, HVAC systems, gearboxes, and more. * Accurately complete maintenance logs, service reports, handovers, and Rhombus reports. * Assist in the installation, commissioning, and testing of new machinery and equipment. * Act as Fire Marshal during emergencies and assist in weekly fire system tests. * Identify areas for improvement in equipment performance and suggest enhancements or upgrades. * Collaborate with maintenance colleagues, production staff, and contractors to coordinate maintenance efforts. * Help manage mechanical spare parts inventory and flag reorders as needed. * Support root cause analysis for recurring issues and contribute to long-term solutions. * Work with production and tooling teams to identify and prevent maintenance-related risks. * Carry out ad hoc tasks as assigned by maintenance or site managers.
Qualifications & Experience Essential: * Recognised mechanical qualification (City & Guilds, ONC/HNC) or time-served experience. * Proven engineering background in a relevant manufacturing environment. * Solid understanding of mechanical systems including pneumatics, hydraulics, and HVAC. * Familiarity with planned preventative maintenance systems. * Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills using tools such as Root Cause Analysis.
