About the Opportunity

A well-established engineering and building services contractor is looking for an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join its growing M&E operation.

The role will involve taking ownership of mechanical projects from initial opportunity and development through to successful completion. You will be responsible for coordinating internal teams, specialist subcontractors and supply chain partners while ensuring projects are delivered safely, commercially and to the required technical standards.

This is a position suited to an experienced mechanical professional who combines strong project management capability with a solid understanding of building services, commercial delivery and stakeholder management.

The Role

As Mechanical Project Manager, you will oversee the end-to-end delivery of mechanical projects, ensuring contractual, financial, programme and quality requirements are achieved.

You will work closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, engineers and internal support functions to establish effective delivery strategies and ensure projects progress in line with agreed objectives.

The successful candidate will also contribute to the identification and development of new opportunities, helping to maximise project value, improve commercial performance and support continued business growth.

Key Responsibilities

* Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of allocated mechanical projects from mobilisation through to completion.

* Develop and manage project programmes, ensuring key milestones and contractual commitments are achieved.

* Coordinate engineering teams, subcontractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders to maintain efficient project delivery.

* Monitor project performance against agreed budgets, programmes, specifications and quality standards.

* Identify and proactively manage technical, commercial, operational, statutory and health & safety risks.

* Develop project financial forecasts covering revenue, expenditure, margin and cash flow.

* Manage project costs and procurement activities, identifying opportunities to improve commercial performance without compromising quality.

* Establish effective commercial arrangements with subcontractors and ensure contractual terms are appropriately managed.

* Maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal departments.

* Ensure all works comply with relevant legislation, company procedures, contractual requirements and industry standards.

* Maintain robust health and safety arrangements throughout the project lifecycle.

* Ensure appropriate CDM compliance and that required project health and safety documentation is completed and maintained.

* Monitor the quality of installation and workmanship, ensuring completed works meet specification and client expectations.

* Identify opportunities for additional works, project development and commercial growth where appropriate.

* Ensure applications for payment, invoicing and other commercial processes are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.

* Provide clear project reporting covering progress, financial performance, risks, programme and delivery issues.

* Ensure projects are successfully closed out, including completion documentation, handover requirements and outstanding commercial matters.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical or building services background combined with proven experience managing projects through to completion.

You will need to demonstrate:

A relevant NVQ, ONC, HNC, HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Construction or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

Proven experience managing mechanical or building services projects.

A strong understanding of project delivery, commercial management and subcontractor coordination.

Experience managing project budgets, programmes and financial performance.

Strong knowledge of health & safety requirements and construction legislation.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

The ability to identify and manage project risks effectively.

A commercially aware approach with a focus on delivering profitable projects.

The confidence to coordinate multiple parties and maintain accountability throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Qualifications

SMSTS

CSCS

IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent

NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent

NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent

Relevant mechanical/building services qualification or equivalent experience

Recognised project management qualification or demonstrable project management experience
