Smart Managed Solutions is seeking an experienced Technical Manager with specialist expertise in mechanical systems, particularly water and pressure systems. This is a pivotal role, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of building mechanical services across our portfolio.
As the company’s subject matter expert, you’ll provide technical leadership on statutory compliance, operational effectiveness, and industry best practice, supporting clients, internal teams, and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the management of all mechanical building services, including HVAC, heating, plumbing, and water systems.
- Ensure compliance with ACOP L8, HSG274, PSSR, and relevant British Standards
- Oversee statutory compliance, asset validation, and maintenance schedules (PPM & reactive)
- Act as the technical authority and point of escalation for water and mechanical systems.
- Draft, review, and implement SOPs and EOPs.
- Deliver technical assurance through audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Provide expert advice on water hygiene, Legionella management, and wider mechanical systems.
- Lead policy reviews, aligning with corporate, health & safety, and environmental standards.
- Manage contractor performance, ensuring cost-effectiveness and minimal disruption.
- Contribute to sustainability, energy efficiency, and innovation in service delivery.
Technical & Compliance Duties
- Act as Authorised Person (AP) for water systems management and PSSR compliance.
- Oversee water safety policies and ensure control measures are in place.
- Manage statutory inspections, testing, and certification.
- Provide technical support to consultants, contractors, and project teams.
- Evaluate supplier proposals for compliance and value.
- Support incident investigations and corrective actions.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing mechanical systems (including water systems) within FM, healthcare, commercial, or industrial sectors.
- Strong background in mechanical engineering (degree, HND, or equivalent).
- In-depth knowledge of UK mechanical engineering and Health & Safety regulations.
- Experience drafting operational procedures, risk assessments, and compliance documentation.
- Skilled in stakeholder management and client communication.
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on safe, practical, and cost-effective solutions.
- Experience in budget management, procurement, and contractor oversight.
- Flexibility to travel across the UK as required.
Desirable:
- Membership of CIBSE, IMechE, or similar professional body.
- Experience in energy efficiency, sustainability, and innovation in building services.
