Mental Health Assistant / SEN Teaching Assistant - Oxford
Aspiring Therapist | Psychology/Counselling/Criminology Graduates
Start: ASAP | £85-£100 per day | Full-time | Primary Phase

Are you a graduate looking to launch your career as a Mental Health Assistant and make a real difference in children's lives?

A leading specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) school in Oxford is seeking a full-time Mental Health Assistant to support children aged 4-11 with complex needs, emotional regulation difficulties, and behavioural challenges.

This role is perfect for Psychology, Counselling or Criminology graduates hoping to gain hands-on experience as a Mental Health Assistant before progressing into therapy, SEN teaching, or educational psychology.

As a Mental Health Assistant, you will:
  • Provide one-to-one and group support for children with SEMH, trauma, and behavioural difficulties

  • Work closely with therapists, psychologists and other Mental Health Assistants

  • Build therapeutic relationships and deliver child-centred support

  • Observe clinical interventions and receive valuable mentoring

The school is looking for a Mental Health Assistant who is empathetic, resilient, proactive and ready to handle a challenging but deeply rewarding environment.

Requirements:
  • Degree in Psychology, Counselling, Criminology or similar (Level 3+ also considered)

  • Experience supporting individuals with SEN or mental health needs is highly desirable

  • Strong communication skills and a passion for child development and mental health
