A supportive specialist provision in Wiltshire is seeking a caring and resilient Mental Health Assistant to join their team on a full-time temporary basis, with potential for the role to become permanent.
This is a rewarding opportunity for a Mental Health Assistant to gain hands-on experience supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs within a nurturing and structured educational environment.
As a Mental Health Assistant, you will:
Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to pupils. Help pupils manage emotions, anxiety and positive behaviour. Build positive, trusting relationships with young people. Support learning while encouraging confidence, resilience and independence. Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and specialist professionals.A Mental Health Assistant would suit a Psychology or Criminology Graduate, Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, or someone with relevant personal or professional experience. Previous experience working with children or young people is beneficial but not essential- empathy, resilience, a positive attitude and a genuine commitment to supporting young people are equally important.
Being a Mental Health Assistant will give the opportunity to develop understanding of mental health, behaviour, emotional regulation and additional needs, while gaining valuable experience within a specialist educational setting. The skills developed as a Mental Health Assistant could provide a strong foundation for future training or careers in Psychology, Counselling, Therapy, Teaching or Youth Work.
