Job Description - MEP Commissioning Manager

MEP Commissioning Manager

Location: Finsbury Square, London
Sector: Commercial Office Refurbishment
Salary: £450 - £500 per day

The Opportunity

We are working with a London-based commissioning and project management consultancy specialising in the commercial, data centre and healthcare sectors. Working alongside leading MEP contractors, main contractors and end clients, the business provides specialist commissioning and project delivery expertise across complex building services projects.

They are currently seeking an experienced MEP Commissioning Manager to oversee the commissioning process on a commercial office refurbishment project in Finsbury Square, London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commissioning professional to take ownership of the commissioning programme, coordinate building services contractors and consultants, and ensure all mechanical and electrical systems are thoroughly tested, commissioned and handed over in line with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

* Commissioning Management: Take ownership of the overall MEP commissioning process, ensuring all mechanical and electrical systems are commissioned safely, efficiently and in accordance with the project specifications.

* Programme Management: Review, monitor and maintain the commissioning programme, identifying potential delays, resolving sequencing issues and implementing corrective measures where necessary.

* Subcontractor Coordination: Manage and coordinate MEP subcontractors and specialist commissioning teams, ensuring all parties meet their commissioning obligations and project deadlines.

* Client Liaison: Act as a key point of contact for the client, main contractor, MEP contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders, providing regular updates on commissioning progress and outstanding activities.

* Testing and Witnessing: Attend and witness commissioning activities, ensuring systems are tested correctly and results meet the required performance criteria and design specifications.

* Commissioning Documentation: Review commissioning method statements, test procedures, results, certificates and associated documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements.

* Progress Monitoring: Track commissioning progress against the programme, maintain commissioning trackers and report on completed activities, outstanding works, defects and potential risks.

* Issue Resolution: Identify commissioning failures, technical issues and performance discrepancies, coordinating with the relevant contractors to ensure remedial works are completed and systems are successfully retested.

* MEP Integration: Ensure mechanical and electrical systems operate together as intended, coordinating integrated testing of relevant building services, controls and life-safety systems.

* Building Management Systems: Coordinate with BMS contractors to ensure controls, monitoring, alarms, interlocks and system sequences are tested and function correctly.

* Pre-Commissioning Readiness: Verify that installations are complete, inspected and ready for commissioning before testing begins, minimising aborted tests and programme delays.

* Handover and Close-Out: Drive the completion of commissioning activities, ensuring outstanding items are resolved and all required records, test certificates, operating information and handover documentation are provided.

* Health and Safety: Ensure commissioning activities are undertaken in accordance with site safety procedures, risk assessments, method statements and relevant statutory requirements.

Requirements

* Proven experience as an MEP Commissioning Manager, Commissioning Manager or similar building services commissioning professional.

* Strong mechanical and electrical building services knowledge, ideally with experience across commercial office developments or refurbishment projects.

* Experience managing MEP subcontractors and coordinating commissioning activities across multiple building services disciplines.

* A strong understanding of commissioning programmes, testing procedures, witnessing activities and technical documentation.

* Knowledge of BMS integration, controls testing and integrated systems testing.

* Experience identifying commissioning issues, managing remedial actions and driving activities through to completion.

* Strong communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills.

* The ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and maintain progress against demanding project deadlines
