We are currently seeking a Metallurgist Subject Matter Expert to join our dynamic team in Redhill, United Kingdom!

 

Role Summary

We are seeking a Metallurgist Subject Matter Expert to provide technical leadership in materials engineering, selection, and performance within High Density Liquid Cooling. This role will define material standards, guide engineering decisions, and help ensure reliable, compliant, and robust material solutions.

The position supports high-performance materials used in liquid cooling systems, secondary fluid networks, and associated components, with emphasis on stainless steels, corrosion-resistant alloys, and polymer-based materials in mixed-material systems.

Working across design, manufacture, validation, and operational support, you will act as the independent technical authority on materials, reduce technical risk, and drive standardisation and best practice.

 Responsibilities

• Act as the technical authority for materials engineering and metallurgical performance across products and projects


• Define and improve material standards, specifications, approved material lists, and engineering guidance


• Lead material selection and compatibility decisions, including corrosion, fluid chemistry, and mixed-material system performance


• Provide technical oversight of design, manufacturing, and quality decisions relating to materials and fabrication


• Support investigations into failures, degradation mechanisms, non-conformances, and material-related risks


• Guide validation and testing strategies to confirm material suitability, durability, and reliability


• Engage with suppliers and manufacturing partners to align on specifications, quality expectations, and processing controls


• Drive standardisation, lessons learned, and capability development across multidisciplinary teams


• Drive initiatives with speed, precision, discipline

 Requirements

• Extensive experience in materials engineering, metallurgy, or a closely related discipline within industrial or process environments


• Strong expertise in material selection for stainless steels, copper, aluminium corrosion-resistant alloys, and engineered materials


• Deep understanding of corrosion mechanisms and material degradation


• Good working knowledge of material standards and specifications such as ASTM, ASME, EN, and ISO


• Experience in welding metallurgy and the impact of fabrication processes on material integrity.


• Establish and govern welding requirements in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including procedures, consumables, heat treatment and associated inspection and testing. 


• Proven ability to lead technical investigations and influence engineering decisions


• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and leadership teams

Desirable Experience

• Experience in data centre, liquid cooling, or other high-reliability environments


• Knowledge of coolant chemistry and secondary fluid network material considerations


• Working knowledge of polymer-based materials such as HDPE, PVC, and PP


• Familiarity with coatings, passivation, and material validation activities


• Background in regulated or safety-critical industries

Education

• Degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline


• Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent


• Evidence of continued professional development in materials or metallurgical practice
