Mid-level Software Engineer (PHP/Laravel)

• Annual Salary: Up to £48,000
• Location: Hybrid (3 days in-office, 2 days WFH)

We are seeking an experienced and driven mid-level developer to join our client's dynamic team. This role involves developing and maintaining a range of business-critical applications, websites, and system integrations. Day-to-day of the role:

• Develop bespoke software and middleware solutions to support and grow core business operations.
• Deliver high-quality, secure code using modern best practices.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across development environments.
• Mentor junior team members, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
• Stay current with industry trends, frameworks, and emerging technologies.
• Undertake any other tasks deemed necessary for the successful completion of the role.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Commercial experience in professional PHP development
• Good commercial level of understanding of object-oriented programming and SOLID principles
• Knowledge of secure coding practices (e.g., OWASP)
• Commercial experience with modern PHP frameworks (preferably Laravel or Symfony)
• Familiarity with relational databases (MySQL) and writing performant queries
• Comfortable working with Git, Composer, and modern development workflows
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Nice to Have:

• Strong familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
• Experience writing automated tests (PHP Unit/PEST)
• Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, etc.)
• Experience with Docker and containerised development environments
• Exposure to modern JavaScript frameworks (Vue.js, React, or similar)
