Our partner: Our partner is a London -based internationally recognised illustrated book publisher known for creating visually engaging books that inform and inspire readers of all ages. Their creative teams are encouraged to challenge conventions to develop highly original visual content, creating books that combine accessible information with exceptional design.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the creative development of highly illustrated print and digital publishing projects from concept through to final delivery.
- Commission and manage photographers, illustrators, freelance designers, and external suppliers, ensuring clear briefs and high creative standards throughout.
- Work collaboratively with editorial teams to develop layouts, mood boards, visual styles, flatplans, and integrated spread designs.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, workflows, and production processes to ensure projects are delivered on time and to a consistently high standard.
- Stay informed on emerging design trends, publishing technologies, and workflow tools to support innovation and continuous improvement across projects.
Experience and skills that will deliver success in this role: We’re looking for a creative and highly organised midweight book designer with experience delivering visually bold projects within illustrated publishing. You will have experience of shaping and styling innovative layouts for integrated illustrated content, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple moving parts across complex projects.
Essential:
- Experience developing the design of highly illustrated books or integrated reference publishing projects.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating original concepts in book layout and cover design.
- Strong technical ability across Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Experience commissioning and briefing photographers, illustrators, freelancers, or creative suppliers.
- Excellent project management, organisation, and time management skills.
- Strong collaborative approach with the confidence to work closely across editorial, design, and production teams.
Desirable:
- Experience working with workflow, scheduling, or project management systems.
- Understanding of print production processes, colour management, and hi -res artwork preparation.
- Awareness of emerging publishing design trends and digital content opportunities.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior creatives or freelance contributors.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to balance creativity with audience and market considerations.
