Location: Barton-under-Needwood, DE13 | Industry: Rail / Rolling Stock
Shifts: Days & Nights - 40 hours per week

Contract: 12 month rolling contract

Pay:

Pre 12 weeks: £27.41 PAYE | £35.09 UMBRELLA
Post 12 weeks: £27.41 PAYE | £36.81 UMBRELLA Overtime paid at 1.25

The Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Modifications & Defects Technician to join their rolling stock engineering operation.

You'll be responsible for carrying out fleet modifications, fault diagnosis, defect rectification, inspections, testing and technical upgrades, helping to maintain the safety, reliability and availability of the fleet.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned rolling stock modifications, engineering changes and technical upgrades.
Install, remove, replace and commission rolling stock components and systems.
Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and control system faults.
Investigate defects, identify root causes and complete rectification within required timescales.
Carry out inspections, functional testing and commissioning before vehicles are released to service.
Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, technical manuals and modification instructions.
Support reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
Accurately complete work orders, vehicle records and maintenance documentation.
Work closely with engineering, production and depot teams to resolve technical issues.
Act as an Authorised Person where competent and appointed.

About You

Essential

Level 3 NVQ or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
3-5 years' experience in a rolling stock engineering environment.
Proven experience in fault-finding and defect rectification on mechanical and electrical systems.
Experience delivering vehicle modifications and engineering change programmes.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and manuals.
Experience using diagnostic/condition monitoring equipment.
Production or manufacturing environment experience.
Familiarity with SES or similar production systems and MS Office.
Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines.
Comfortable undertaking safety-critical work.

Desirable

Level 4 / HNC in Electrical Engineering.
Rolling stock or rail qualifications.
Knowledge of Lean, 5 Why, Kaizen and Continuous Improvement.
Experience with rolling stock reliability improvement.
Knowledge of customer requirements and safety-critical railway systems.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on technical opportunity to join a leading rail engineering environment, working directly on rolling stock modifications, fault diagnosis and fleet improvement.

Due to the safety-critical nature of this role, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a Drugs & Alcohol test prior to starting.
