Job Title: Mortgage Underwriter - 1st Charge Mortgages

Location: Hertfordshire

Salary: Up to £45,000 depending on experience + benefits

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm

About the position of Mortgage Underwriter - 1st Charges:

We're delighted to be working with a growing specialist lender as they expand their 1st Charge Mortgages team. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established business in a true end-to-end underwriting role. You'll manage your own pipeline, assess residential mortgage applications, and work closely with brokers and solicitors.

We welcome applications from candidates with experience in residential, second charge, or personal loan underwriting - whether gained within a specialist lender, high street lender, or mortgage packager.

If you've previously held a mandate and managed a pipeline, even if the experience is backdated, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities for the role of Mortgage Underwriter - 1st Charges:

• Underwrite residential mortgage applications in line with policy and regulation
• Manage a pipeline from application through to completion
• Liaise with brokers, solicitors, and valuers to progress applications smoothly
• Update internal systems accurately and chase outstanding requirements
• Ensure decisions fall within risk appetite and are escalated where needed

Experience and skills required for the role of Mortgage Underwriter - 1st Charges:

• Experience underwriting 1st or 2nd charge mortgages, or personal loans
• Strong understanding of mortgage criteria, documents, and FCA requirements
• Confident managing pipelines and working to deadlines
• CeMAP is desirable but not essential
