Mortuary Technician

Salary range: £44,685 -  £48,003 p.a. inc. London weighting
Contract: Secondment/Fixed term (initial term 6 months)
Hours of work: 36 hours per week     
Location: Brent, Harrow & Barnet Public Mortuary, Northwick Park Hospital

 

We are seeking a dedicated Mortuary Technician (qualified Anatomical Pathology Technologist) to join our Public Mortuary Service on a fixed-term basis, helping to ensure the continued delivery of a sensitive, high-quality and statutory service.

Working as part of a small, highly professional team, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation of the mortuary. Your responsibilities will include preparing the deceased for post-mortem examination, assisting Pathologists during examinations, and ensuring the highest standards of dignity, care and respect at all times.

You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records, ensuring robust identification processes, and working in full compliance with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) standards and relevant health and safety requirements.

The role will involve working closely with colleagues, Coroner’s officers, funeral directors and, at times, bereaved families. You will also be expected to support service resilience through flexible working arrangements, including participation in rota/on-call arrangements where required.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to a statutory service that supports the Coroner and partner boroughs, while making a meaningful difference during some of the most difficult times for residents.

We are looking for a professional, resilient and compassionate individual who can operate effectively in a regulated and emotionally demanding environment.

You will have:

•    Experience working within a mortuary

•    Practical experience assisting with post-mortem examinations

•    A relevant qualification in Anatomical Pathology Technology

•    A strong understanding of health and safety, infection control and professional standards within mortuary practice

•    Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records and follow strict procedures

•    Strong interpersonal and communication skills when working with colleagues and stakeholders

•    A collaborative approach and willingness to support team resilience

•    Emotional resilience and awareness of the demands of working in a bereavement setting
