Move-On Officer

Help homeless households move from emergency and temporary accommodation into settled accommodation.

We’re looking for a Move-On Officer to work directly with households living in emergency and temporary accommodation, supporting them to access suitable move-on options and progress into settled social or private rented accommodation.

The role

You’ll provide a dedicated move-on casework service, working with households to identify and progress appropriate housing options. This includes supporting customers with bidding, qualifying offers, private rented sector offers and access to supported accommodation.

You’ll maintain regular contact with households in temporary accommodation, develop move-on action plans and provide advice and support on issues that may affect their ability to move on, including budgeting, income, debt, rent arrears, welfare benefits, training and employment.

You’ll carry out home visits, suitability and affordability assessments, provide tenancy training and help households understand the housing options available to them. You’ll also work with the Procurement Team to identify suitable private rented accommodation.

What we’re looking for

You’ll need:

• experience of delivering front-line services to homeless households;
• knowledge of homelessness legislation and the duties owed to homeless households;
• knowledge of housing needs, lettings, the housing register and different housing options;
• experience of interviewing customers to understand their needs and agreeing a course of action;
• knowledge of welfare benefits and financial assessments;
• experience of case and data management;
• experience of liaising with private rented sector landlords;
• experience of achieving performance targets;
• strong communication, negotiation, influencing and partnership-working skills; and
• the ability to manage competing priorities and a caseload within agreed targets.
