JOB ROLE: Multi-Skilled Engineer

Shepley Spring are the UK's leading bottled water manufacturer with over 20 years' experience in production and are proud to remain a family-run business to this day.

The company operates across three manufacturing facilities in Yorkshire and owns several high-speed, highly automated production lines capable of producing both still and sparkling water. Shepley Spring supplies leading retailers including Morrisons, Costco, Booker, Tesco and Iceland through private-label production, alongside its exclusive brands Ice Valley® and White Rock®.

The Multi-Skilled Engineer is responsible for maintaining the smooth and efficient operation of production machinery and equipment across the site. The role involves carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, and supporting continuous improvement to maximise equipment reliability, production efficiency and product quality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Preventative and Reactive Maintenance:

Carry out planned preventative maintenance across production machinery, including mechanical, electrical and PLC-controlled systems.

*

Respond to equipment breakdowns, diagnosing faults and completing repairs to minimise production downtime.

*

Identify opportunities to improve machinery reliability and performance.

Engineering and Production Support:

*

Provide engineering support to production teams to ensure machinery operates efficiently.

*

Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and automation issues using appropriate diagnostic tools.

*

Support the installation, commissioning and upgrading of production equipment.

*

Work with external suppliers and contractors during equipment installation and maintenance.

Health and Safety Compliance:

*

Follow all relevant health, safety and food safety regulations during maintenance activities.

*

Ensure safe working practices when working with machinery, electrical systems and hazardous materials.

*

Support risk assessments and ensure maintenance activities are carried out safely.

Continuous Improvement and Administration:

*

Identify and implement improvements to machinery, processes and equipment efficiency.

*

Maintain accurate maintenance records, documenting repairs, parts used and work completed.

*

Support maintenance schedules and ensure equipment is regularly serviced.

*

Monitor spare parts and engineering supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels.

*

Work collaboratively with production teams and provide technical guidance to operators where required.

COMPETENCIES:

*

Degree, diploma or equivalent engineering qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or a related discipline.

*

Previous experience in a multi-skilled engineering or maintenance role within manufacturing.

*

Strong mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge.

*

Experience working within food and beverage or FMCG manufacturing is desirable.

*

Exposure to Krones-manufactured machinery would be beneficial.

*

Knowledge of PLCs, automated systems and industrial control systems.

*

Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults.

*

Understanding of food safety standards, HACCP and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

*

Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics and engineering manuals.

*

Knowledge of health and safety regulations and safe working practices.

*

Strong problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.

*

Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and perform effectively under pressure.

WORKING HOURS:

42-hour average working week on a rotating continental shift pattern, covering days (6am–6pm) and nights (6pm–6am), working a 4/5 on, 4/5 off rotation.

SALARY: £45,000–£56,650 per year
