Job Description - National Business Development Manager

My client is a well-established family business, specialising in the storage and transportation of chilled, frozen, and ambient products, as well as pharma and medical supplies and equipment for concerts and exhibitions. Expanding operations with a new 22,000sqm warehouse in Theale, opening January 2026.

My client is a family business established in 1976 now part of a European temperature-controlled warehouse and transport platform. They specialise in the storage and transportation of chilled, frozen, and ambient products, as well as pharmaceutical and medical supplies and equipment for concerts and exhibitions. To meet market demands, they are expanding their operations with a new 22,000sqm warehouse in Theale, Berkshire, due to open in January 2026.

Role Overview:

They seek a dynamic and experienced National Business Development Manager to join their expanding team. This role is pivotal in driving new business opportunities to fill their existing and new warehouse facilities within UK. The ideal candidate will be a natural leader with a strong sales background, preferably within the food or logistics industry, responsible for driving growth, identifying new business opportunities and building strong relationships with clients and partners across Europe. This role requires analytical thinking, strategic planning, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify New Business Opportunities: Research market trends, assess competition, and explore expansion opportunities.
  • Market Research & Strategy Development: Analyse market trends and industry insights
  • Sales & Lead Generation: Generate leads through networking, cold calls, and referrals
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with key clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Proposal & Presentation Development: Prepare business proposals, presentations, and pitches.
  • Collaboration with Internal Teams: Work closely with marketing, sales, and product development teams
  • Warehouse Utilisation: Ensure the new facility in Theale, which can store 15,000 frozen pallets and 1,200 chilled pallets, is filled at an appropriate pace, aiming for 60% capacity by January 2026.

  • Negotiation Skills: Effective negotiation to achieve win-win situations in partnerships and contracts.

  • Relationship Building: Building trust and maintaining strong relationships with clients and partners.
  • Sales Expertise: Proficiency in sales techniques and lead generation and building a strong sales pipeline.
  • Project Management: Managing multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
  • Problem-Solving: Addressing challenges and finding innovative solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, Logistics or Engineering,
  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development, consultative sales, or account management. Experience within the logistics, transport, or supply chain industry is highly valued.
