Our client, a leader in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Network Engineer for a contract position in Yeovil. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work on projects that safeguard the UK's most critical systems, supporting a team dedicated to maintaining network security and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Designing, configuring, and supporting network virtualisation solutions, specifically VMware NSX, within secure and enterprise environments Taking ownership of engineering delivery for one or more work packages, including planning, estimation, execution, and reporting Developing and reviewing high- and low-level network designs and technical documentation Integrating and testing network components, ensuring compliance with performance and security requirements Providing mentoring, guidance, and technical leadership to Network Engineers and Technicians Collaborating with stakeholders, project teams, and customers to ensure solutions meet requirements Driving continuous improvement and contributing to engineering standards and governance
Job Requirements:
Strong experience in designing, configuring, and supporting network virtualisation platforms like NSX or similar Ability to balance hands-on engineering with technical leadership and mentoring responsibilities Confidence to take ownership of solutions and represent networking in technical discussions In-depth understanding of TCP/IP, OSI model, and routing/switching protocols such as BGP, OSPF, QoS, VPNs, VLANs Proficiency in integrating NSX networking within virtualised and platform environments (e.g. VCF) Hands-on experience with Cisco or equivalent multi-vendor network equipment Familiarity with network security technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPN, and segmentation Knowledge of virtualisation and cloud networking concepts
Desirable Skills:
VMware NSX-T deep expertise and certification (or equivalent experience) Experience with VCF networking integration (vSphere, vSAN, Aria Suite) Understanding of overlay/underlay network design concepts Experience in automation of network configuration (Ansible, Terraform, APIs) Integration with security tooling (SIEM, SOC platforms) Knowledge of cloud networking (AWS, Azure) and hybrid connectivity Experience working in secure or regulated environments If you are an experienced Network Engineer looking to take the next step in your career within a dynamic and security-focused environment, we would love to hear from you.
