Job Description - New Job: Learning Support Assistant in Hayes, Hillingdon

Job Description

Learning Support Assistant | Hayes | September 2026

Are you passionate about empowering young people to achieve their ambitions?

A forward-thinking secondary school and sixth form in Hayes is seeking two dedicated Learning Support Assistants to support a bright and ambitious student with physical needs as she begins the next stage of her educational journey. This is a unique opportunity to make a genuine difference while helping a young person access an exciting curriculum centred around media, music and creative industries.

£500+ per week (PAYE) | Full-time | September 2026 Start

Learning Support Assistant – The Role

  • Provide dedicated support to a sixth-form student with physical disabilities throughout the school day

  • Promote independence, confidence and self-advocacy at every opportunity

  • Support access to lessons, specialist equipment, assistive technology and the wider school environment

  • Assist with mobility around the school site and provide practical physical support where required

  • Work closely with teaching staff, therapists and the student's family to ensure consistent support

  • When not supporting the student directly, provide additional support across the wider SEND department

About the Student

The student is a creative, determined and ambitious young person with aspirations in music and media. She is a wheelchair user and has cystic fibrosis, requiring support with accessibility, mobility and navigating day-to-day school life.

This role is not about doing things for her — it's about knowing when to step in and when to step back, helping her maintain independence while ensuring she can fully participate in all aspects of school life.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Warm, approachable and able to build genuine trust with a young person

  • A strong problem-solver who can think creatively around accessibility and inclusion

  • Confident with technology and willing to learn new software and equipment

  • Perceptive enough to recognise when support is needed and when independence should be encouraged

  • An excellent communicator who can work collaboratively with school staff, therapists and family members

Experience in a school setting is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from graduates and professionals with experience in SEND, youth work, healthcare, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology or related fields.

An interest in music, media or the creative industries would be particularly advantageous.

What You'll Receive

  • Specialist training from the student's physiotherapist and occupational therapist

  • Ongoing support from an experienced SEND team

  • Valuable experience supporting a young person with complex physical needs

  • The opportunity to make a lasting impact on a student's educational experience and future aspirations

This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity for a compassionate and proactive individual who wants to help a young person thrive both academically and personally.
