Honer / Lapper – Precision Engineering

Location: Poole, Dorset
Salary: £17.00 – £18.00 per hour
Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Overtime: Paid at time and a half

We are recruiting for an experienced Honer / Lapper to join a well-established precision engineering manufacturer based in Poole.

This position involves operating specialist honing and lapping equipment to produce high-quality engineering components to exacting dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements.

The Role

• 
  

  Setting and operating honing and lapping machines.

  
  


• 
  

  Producing components to specified dimensions, tolerances and surface finishes.

  
  


• 
  

  Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.

  
  


• 
  

  Selecting appropriate tooling, fixtures, abrasives and machine settings.

  
  


• 
  

  Inspecting components using micrometers, bore gauges, air gauges, vernier calipers and dial indicators.

  
  


• 
  

  Using surface finish measuring equipment.

  
  


• 
  

  Identifying and resolving machining or quality issues.

  
  


• 
  

  Maintaining accurate production and inspection records.

  
  


• 
  

  Carrying out routine machine maintenance and cleaning.

  
  

Essential Skills & Experience

• 
  

  Previous experience operating honing, lapping or precision finishing equipment is essential.

  
  


• 
  

  Good understanding of engineering drawings and dimensional tolerances.

  
  


• 
  

  Experience using precision measuring instruments.

  
  


• 
  

  Knowledge of geometric tolerances and surface finish requirements.

  
  


• 
  

  Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  
  


• 
  

  Previous experience within a precision engineering machine shop.

  
  

What's on Offer

  £17.00 – £18.00 per hour, depending on experience.

  Overtime paid at time and a half.

  39-hour basic working week, Monday to Friday.

  Typical start times between 7.00am and 8.00am, with finish times between 4.00pm and 5.00pm.

  Flexible working arrangements, including the possibility of a condensed working week, subject to management approval.
