About the Role

We are recruiting for a Waking Night Flexible Support Worker to join a specialist support service in Clacton-on-Sea.

The role involves providing support and maintaining the wellbeing of adults with enduring mental health needs throughout the night. You will work as part of a wider support service, helping individuals to progress along their recovery journey and develop greater independence.

During the night, you will provide social, emotional and practical support, observe clients' presentation and respond appropriately to any concerns or changes in their wellbeing. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records and ensuring any risks or incidents are managed appropriately.

The role requires someone who is calm, observant and confident working independently, while knowing when to seek additional support.

About You

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, reliable and able to build positive and professional relationships with clients.

Experience of working with adults with enduring mental health needs or within a similar support environment would be beneficial. Experience of working with people with complex needs or dual diagnosis would also be advantageous.

You should be confident working independently during the night, able to recognise changes in a person's presentation and respond appropriately. Good communication skills, professional boundaries and the ability to manage potentially challenging situations calmly are essential.

You will also need to be flexible and comfortable working as part of a rota covering 7 days a week.

Key Responsibilities

You will provide support throughout the night, developing rapport with clients and offering social, emotional and practical assistance where required. You will monitor clients' wellbeing, identify and respond to concerns, document interactions and take appropriate action where risks arise.

The role also involves liaising with relevant colleagues and services, maintaining clear records, reporting any building or maintenance issues and ensuring the safety and security of clients and the accommodation.

There may also be opportunities to contribute to team meetings, training and ongoing professional development during daytime hours.

Working Pattern

This is a waking night position, with shifts running approximately 9:00pm to 8:30am.

The role is based on a 7-day rota, so weekend and bank holiday working will form part of the rota. This does not mean you will work every weekend – shifts will be arranged on a rota basis according to the needs of the service.

The position is 40.25 hours per week on a permanent contract.
