NNDR Business Rates Officer

Job Title: Revenues Officer (Business Rates / NNDR)

Location: Local authority based in Croydon - Hybrid Working (can be remote depending on experience)

Hourly rate: £20.38 PAYE / £27.03 Umbrella

Contract Length: 6-month contract (possibility of extension)

Working Pattern: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 36 hours

ASAP Start

In this role, you'll play a key part in managing Business Rates accounts and delivering exceptional customer service across multiple channels. Your day‑to‑day will involve:

Keeping Business Rates accounts accurate and up-to-date - applying reductions, updating payer details, issuing refunds, and tracing gone‑aways.
Negotiating post‑summons payment arrangements that help maximise council income.
Handling customer contact via phone, email, online services, and written correspondence.
Supporting court hearings by agreeing arrangements and requesting adjournments when needed.
Taking ownership of recovery actions and advising customers on Business Rates processes.
Resolving queries quickly while maintaining professionalism and sensitivity.
Agreeing instalment plans and promoting Direct Debit options.
Managing re‑valuation schedules and updates from the Valuation Office Agency.
Preparing detailed cases for enforcement agents and ensuring correct allocation of payments.
Driving recovery on post‑liability order debt to maximise collection.

What We're Looking For

Essential Business Rates knowledge
NNDR experience
The ability to work confidently in a fast‑paced setting
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Strong understanding of legislation and how to interpret it
Comfortable managing workloads and working to deadlines
Solid IT skills and confidence using digital systems
A professional approach to handling sensitive information
