O&M Engineer

Masdar is jointly owned by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala), and Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), and under this ownership the company is targeting a renewable energy portfolio capacity of at least 100 gigawatts (GW) by 2030 and an annual green hydrogen production capacity of up to 1 million tonnes by the same year.

Important: Role is based in Lowestoft within the O&M team, operating on a hybrid basis with an expectation of 3 days/week in the office. The role will also involve occasional offshore visits and travel to London and other business locations as required.

Candidates based in or near Lowestoft are preferred, though London-based candidates able to travel regularly to Lowestoft and our London offices will also be considered.

Job Purpose:

To be fully embedded as Masdar secondee in O&M team at an operating asset, working alongside the JV partner responsible for Operations and providing valuable support to the O&M team and acting as Masdar representative

At site, this role is part of a critical function within the Offshore Operations Engineering – Electrical team, where the work directly supports the integrity and long term performance of the Electrical Transmission System - High Voltage assets on both HVDC and HVAC. The purpose of this role is to ensure these assets operate reliably and efficiently, safeguarding  long term asset value and maximising production revenue.

The role will also be part of Masdar’s Offshore Wind Asset Performance team, working closely Construction and Engineering Teams to provide valuable feedback and insights as Masdar’s portfolio/operational team expands.

Responsibilities

Provide Operational Assets with high quality technical expertise and knowledge

• Provide technical support to the operational portfolio of renewable generation assets, carrying out root cause analysis and developing/recommending solutions and strategies to improve asset availability and reliability.
• Offer expert operational technical support and guidance across a wide range of electrical assets, including Protection, PQ Analysis, Transformers, Shunt Reactors, GIS, AIS, VTs, CTs, STATCOMs, Filters, UPS, LV Boards, Fire Systems, and related equipment.
• Lead the operational readiness of new wind farm assets, ensuring risks during the operational period are minimised and that site teams have all necessary information in place.(related to electrical engineering workstreams)
• Provide strategic advice, assessment, and recommendations across the full project life cycle—from development through to decommissioning. .(related to electrical engineering workstreams)
• Evaluate designs from an operational perspective to ensure O&M requirements are correctly embedded. Assess various O&M solutions and associated risk profiles affecting technical integrity, asset performance, and other KPIs. Present options and mitigation recommendations to Lead Electrical O&M Engineers, Site and Department Managers, or external contractors to ensure cost effective, fully evaluated, and risk appropriate O&M solutions.

Development of Asset Management Processes and information sharing with stakeholders

• Support the development of an industry leading Asset Management Framework, including the creation and implementation of plans, procedures, and processes.

Interface and information sharing with other O&M teams

• Support site and back office activities to optimise outage strategies for maintenance and repair work (planned and unplanned).
• Support the contracts team and site operations in the tendering, planning, and monitoring of maintenance activities. Provide input on bid levels, commercial strategies, and agreements relevant to projects.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure O&M activities are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality, following procedures, offshore standards, and industry best practice, while ensuring full compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Risk Management

• Manage and de risk operational interfaces with the Control Centre and the Transmission System Owner.

Comply with information security policies, procedures and requirements at all times

• Adhere to any applicable EA3/JV host/Masdar information security policies and procedures and identify and report security incidents and suspected weaknesses to the appropriate point(s) of contact.
• Protect assets under care (e.g. laptops and other devices) and information/credentials against unauthorized access, sharing, and/or damage/loss, in accordance with the Information Classification and Handling Procedure.
• Clear desks of all sensitive material and log off/ lock workstations at the end of the day and when leaving desk for a prolonged period in accordance with Acceptable Usage Policies.
• Ensure not installing, copying or modifying of any software on Masdar equipment without authorization.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Relevant Degree Qualification (Electrical Engineering) or Level 3 NVQ/ Advanced Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering
• Asset Management qualifications such as the IAM Certificate are beneficial.

Preferred Experience:

• 3-5 years relevant work experience.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: O&G, marine, HV electrical design, operations, HV safety, or O&M delivery within the wind sector.
• A track record of resolving complex technical issues, from grid code compliance challenges to leading root cause analyses for component failures.
