OCEAN FREIGHT SUPERVISOR

£30,000 - £35,000

This is a hands-on role, managing ocean and air import and export shipments from initial booking through to final delivery, while supporting the wider operations team and ensuring consistently high levels of customer service.

The successful candidate will have solid practical experience within ocean freight forwarding and a dessire to learn airfreight, be confident managing multiple shipments and priorities, and have the communication skills to build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and overseas partners.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage ocean and air freight import and export shipments from booking through to final delivery.

* Coordinate both Less than Container Load (LCL) and Full Container Load (FCL) shipments.

* Arrange bookings with shipping lines, freight agents, hauliers and overseas partners.

* Prepare, check and process shipping and customs documentation accurately and efficiently.

* Coordinate customs clearance, collections and final deliveries.

* Monitor shipment progress and proactively provide customers with clear and timely updates.

* Identify and resolve operational issues, delays, documentation discrepancies and shipment queries.

* Obtain, compare and negotiate competitive freight rates with carriers and suppliers.

* Prepare accurate customer quotations and ensure all costs and sales charges are recorded correctly.

* Check supplier invoices and ensure operational files are accurate, complete and up to date.

* Develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers, shipping lines, overseas agents and hauliers.

* Support, guide and supervise members of the ocean freight team.

* Ensure all operations are carried out in accordance with company procedures and relevant customs, shipping and compliance requirements.

* Assist with air freight and international courier shipments when required.

* Contribute to the continuous improvement of operational processes and customer service standards.

Experience & Skills

* Minimum 12 months' experience in ocean freight forwarding.

* Practical experience managing both import and export shipments.

* Hands-on experience with LCL and FCL operations.

* Good working knowledge of ocean and air freight documentation, processes and procedures.

* Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.

* Good knowledge of customs procedures and international freight regulations

* Ability to manage multiple shipments, deadlines and priorities effectively.
