Ocean Freight Supervisor

My client is a well established freight forwarder who provides road, sea, air and customs solutions to customers across a wide range of industries. Actively seeking an experienced Ocean Freight Supervisor to join their established team and take responsibility for the efficient day-to-day handling of ocean freight shipments.

The ideal candidate will have at least 12 months previous experience and the role will offer excellent career progression through to senior management level and will manage import and export movements from booking through to final delivery, support the wider operations team and maintain the high standard of service our customers expect.

Duties:

. Manage ocean freight import and export shipments from start to finish.

· Handle both less-than-container-load (LCL) and full-container-load (FCL) movements.

· Arrange bookings with shipping lines, agents and overseas partners.

· Prepare, check and process shipping documentation accurately.

· Coordinate customs clearance, collections and final deliveries.

· Monitor shipments and provide customers with clear, timely updates.

· Resolve operational delays, documentation problems and shipment queries.

· Obtain and negotiate competitive rates with carriers and suppliers.

· Prepare quotations and ensure costs and sales charges are recorded accurately.

· Check supplier invoices and ensure operational files are completed correctly.

· Build strong relationships with customers, shipping lines, agents and hauliers.

· Support and supervise members of the ocean freight team.

Experience required:

. At least 12 months’ experience in ocean freight forwarding.

· Practical experience of both import and export operations.

· Experience handling LCL and FCL shipments.

· Good knowledge of ocean freight documentation and procedures.

· Ability to manage several shipments and priorities at the same time.

Desirable

· Previous supervisory or team-leading experience.

· Experience of air freight operations.

· Experience arranging international courier shipments.

Health & safety notes:

. Salary of £30,000–£35,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus profit share bonus scheme
