Ocean Import Operator

We are looking for an Ocean Import Operator to join our team near Thurrock. This role involves managing import shipments into the UK from start to finish, ensuring smooth operations, competitive pricing, and excellent customer service.

• Shipment Management

  • Handle import shipments from booking through to delivery.

  • Liaise with shipping lines, overseas agents, and hauliers.

  • Monitor shipments to ensure on-time arrival and accurate updates to customers.

• Quoting & Pricing

  • Provide quotations for import shipments.

  • Secure competitive pricing from carriers and suppliers.

• Documentation & Compliance

  • Check and process key documents (bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, arrival notices).

  • Ensure all customs procedures are followed correctly (knowledge of process and documents required, even if not completing entries directly).

  • Advise customers on what paperwork is required for smooth clearance.

• Groupage & Consols

  • If experienced, organise import groupage containers.

  • Training can be provided for candidates with the right background.

• General Operations

  • Work closely with transport, warehouse, and accounts teams to complete jobs efficiently.

  • Resolve any operational issues as they arise.

• Experience handling deep sea imports to the UK from start to finish.

• Good understanding of customs procedures and required documentation.

• Ability to provide pricing and manage bookings effectively.

• Strong communication and organisational skills.

• Able to manage multiple shipments at the same time.

• Competent with freight systems and Microsoft Office.
