Operations Director – The Company

Our client is a highly regarded and established main contractor specialising in social housing maintenance, refurbishment and improvement works across the South West.

Operating across planned maintenance, responsive repairs, voids, minor works and retrofit programmes, the business has developed an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality services to housing associations, local authorities and other public sector clients.

With an established client base, a strong pipeline of secured work and ambitious plans for continued growth, the company is looking to appoint an experienced Operations Director to play a key role in the next stage of its development.

Operations Director – The Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Operations Director will take overall responsibility for the operational performance and successful delivery of the company’s social housing maintenance and refurbishment contracts.

This is a senior leadership appointment requiring an experienced construction professional who combines strong operational knowledge with commercial awareness, strategic thinking and the ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.

The successful candidate will oversee multiple contracts and operational teams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, profitably and to the highest standards of customer satisfaction.

Working closely with the Managing Director and wider leadership team, you will also play an important role in business planning, client relationship management, operational improvements and the continued growth of the company.

Operations Director – Duties & Responsibilities

* Provide strategic and operational leadership across the company’s social housing maintenance and refurbishment contracts.

* Oversee the successful delivery of planned maintenance, responsive repairs, voids, minor works and retrofit programmes.

* Lead, manage and develop operational management teams, including Contracts Managers, Project Managers and associated delivery teams.

* Take overall responsibility for operational performance, contract delivery, productivity and service standards.

* Work closely with the commercial team to maximise profitability, manage budgets and maintain strong financial performance.

* Develop and implement operational strategies to support business growth and improve efficiency.

* Build and maintain excellent relationships with housing associations, local authorities and key clients.

* Ensure contracts are delivered in accordance with agreed programmes, budgets, KPIs and contractual obligations.

* Identify opportunities for operational improvement, innovation and business development.

* Oversee resource planning, subcontractor performance and supply chain management.

* Maintain the highest standards of health, safety, quality and compliance.

* Support the Managing Director with strategic planning, business development and long-term company objectives.

* Promote a positive, accountable and collaborative working culture throughout the business.

* Provide regular operational and financial performance reports to the Managing Director.

Operations Director – Requirements

* Significant senior operational management experience within a main contractor specialising in social housing maintenance and refurbishment.

* Proven experience overseeing multiple social housing maintenance contracts or programmes.

* Strong understanding of planned works, responsive maintenance, voids, minor works and refurbishment.

* Experience managing large operational teams and multiple Contracts Managers or Project Managers.

* Excellent commercial awareness, including contract profitability, budgets and financial reporting.

* Experience working with housing associations, local authorities and public sector clients.

* Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, develop and manage teams.

* A proven track record of improving operational performance and successfully delivering contracts.

* Excellent communication, negotiation and client relationship management skills.

* Strategic mindset with the ability to contribute to wider business growth and development.

* Experience at Operations Director, Regional Director, Head of Operations or Senior Contracts Management level will be considered.

Operations Director – The Package

Salary up to £90,000 depending on experience.
