Role overviewâ¯â¯
We are looking for an Ophthalmic Assistant to join the team at one of our newest sites in Plymouth Newmedica. This will be 37.5 hours over 4 days per week may include weekends on a rota basis.
Our Ophthalmic Assistants are the face ofâ¯Newmedica⯖â¯they’reâ¯often amongst the first people that our patients interact with on clinic visits and so having a welcoming, friendly, empathetic approach is vital.â¯â¯â¯
It’sâ¯a busy role -â¯you’llâ¯be seeingâ¯a number ofâ¯patients each day to take them through a range of diagnostic tests. These will be passed onto a senior clinician toâ¯ascertainâ¯if surgery or further treatment isâ¯required.â¯You’llâ¯be using a variety of different equipment and systems soâ¯we’reâ¯looking for someone who is comfortable using systems and is fairly tech savvy.â¯â¯You could also be supporting our theatre teams by looking after & assisting patients and escorting them to and from theatre and fetching and preparing equipment required in the theatre.
The thought of eye surgery can be a daunting prospect for patients to deal with, so our Ophthalmic Assistants need to be able to put patients at ease. They also needâ¯strong communicationâ¯skills to be able to explain the purpose of the different tests to ensure the patient understands their treatment.â¯â¯â¯
This isâ¯a great roleâ¯to progress your clinical skills or to take the first step on a clinical career path.â¯Newmedicaâ¯is committed to the growth and development of all our colleagues andâ¯the Ophthalmic Assistant is a great platform toâ¯potentially explore a career in diagnostic (clinic) or theatre teamsâ¯â¯
