Job Description - Outdoor Education Instructor / Teacher (Secondary 1:1 Support)

Location: Burnley (BB)

Salary: Up to £31,850 per annum (Depending on experience)

Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary to Permanent

Qualifications: Qualified (QTS/QTLS) or Unqualified (Experienced Youth Workers / Sports Coaches / Outdoor Instructors welcome!)

Are you passionate about the outdoors? Do you believe that nature, adventure, and hands-on learning can transform a young person's life?

We are seeking an inspiring, energetic, and resilient Outdoor Education Specialist / Teacher to join our team at Woodlands in Burnley. This is a unique, highly rewarding role focusing on impactful 1:1 student mentorship and engagement within a secondary school setting.

Whether you are a fully qualified teacher looking to escape the traditional classroom, or an unqualified instructor with a proven track record of engaging youth through outdoor activities, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing:

Transformational 1:1 Support: Work closely with individual secondary-aged students who thrive outside the traditional classroom box.

Active Learning: Utilise outdoor education, bushcraft, sports, and practical hands-on activities as tools to build confidence, resilience, and emotional well-being.

Curriculum Integration: Deliver engaging, practical sessions that bridge the gap between outdoor activity and personal development/academic progress.

Mentorship: Act as a positive role model, helping students overcome barriers to learning and manage their behaviour effectively.

What We Are Looking For:

The Right Attitude Over Pieces of Paper: We welcome applications from both Qualified and Unqualified individuals. Your ability to connect with young people is what matters most.

An "Outdoor Person": Experience in outdoor education, forest schools, sports coaching, youth work, or military/scout leadership is highly desirable.

Secondary Sector Savvy: Experience working with secondary-aged students, particularly those with additional needs or challenging behaviours, is a massive plus.

Resilience & Empathy: A calm under pressure, adaptable nature, and a genuine desire to make a difference in a 1:1 capacity.

Why Choose This Role?

Excellent Pay: Competitive salary up to £31,850.

Path to Permanency: Start on a temporary contract with a clear, structured pathway to a permanent position at Woodlands.

Autonomy: Freedom to design creative, active sessions that truly engage your student.

Stunning Setting: Work within an environment that values holistic education and staff well-being.

If you are ready to take your teaching or instructing skills into the great outdoors and change a young person's trajectory, apply today!
