Start Date: ASAP
Rate: £35–£45 per hour
Duration: 6 months (with the option to extend)
Working Hours: Full-time or Part-time
Sites: Based across two specialist school settings in NW9

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join two specialist educational settings in NW9, London. These schools provide highly tailored support for children and young people with a wide range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), cognitive and learning difficulties, and in some cases additional medical needs.

The first school supports pupils aged 3–19 with complex needs, cognition and learning difficulties, many of whom have Autism and additional medical conditions.
The second school supports pupils aged 11–19 with a wide range of learning difficulties, including Autism, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). Both settings are equipped with specialist teaching approaches to meet diverse communication and learning needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for a therapist with experience in paediatrics and/or UK school-based settings who is passionate about enabling young people to develop confidence and communication skills in a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Support the assessment, diagnosis, and delivery of therapy for children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), complex needs, and varying levels of learning difficulties.

  • Work across both school sites to provide targeted and specialist SALT interventions.

  • Deliver individualised therapy plans in collaboration with teaching teams, SEN staff, and wider multidisciplinary professionals.

  • Support students with Autism, MLD, SLD, and complex medical or cognitive needs through evidence-based communication interventions.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in line with HCPC and RCSLT professional standards.

  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings, EHCP reviews, and progress reports.

  • (If applicable) Provide support around dysphagia management—experience beneficial but not essential.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

  • HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

  • Experience working within paediatric and/or UK school settings (strongly preferred).

  • An understanding of Autism, learning difficulties, and complex communication needs.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • A proactive, child-centred, and reflective approach to practice.

  • Dysphagia experience beneficial, but not required.
