Job Description - Paediatric Special School Speech and Language Therapist

Job Title: Paediatric Special School Speech and Language Therapist – Cricklewood, London
Banding: Equivalent to Band 7–8a (depending on experience)
Location: Cricklewood, London
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £47,810 – £63,176 per annum (pro rata)
Working Hours: Part-time – 3 days per week

Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced and compassionate Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join a highly specialist Autism-focused school in Cricklewood, London. This setting supports pupils aged 7 to 16 years with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated conditions who have struggled to access education in both mainstream and other specialist settings.

The school offers a fully integrated therapeutic approach to education, providing a nurturing and supportive environment that promotes emotional well-being, communication, and academic growth.

This role is ideally suited to a therapist with experience in SEN schools, particularly working with children with ASC, who is looking to make a meaningful difference in a part-time role (3 days per week).

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage a caseload of pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), often alongside Autism and other co-occurring conditions.

  • Develop and deliver individualised therapy plans, in collaboration with educational and clinical colleagues.

  • Provide both direct and indirect therapy, including staff training and support to embed communication strategies across the school day.

  • Work closely with parents/carers and contribute to EHCP reviews and multi-disciplinary team meetings.

  • Maintain clear and accurate clinical documentation, following best practice and safeguarding protocols.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

  • Current HCPC registration and eligibility for RCSLT membership.

  • Previous experience working in SEN school settings, ideally with a focus on ASC.

  • A strong understanding of neurodiversity and the importance of integrated therapeutic approaches in education.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
