Job Description - Pastoral Support Worker

Bitterne Park School is seeking a committed and compassionate Pastoral Support Worker to join our inclusive and supportive school community.

This is a key role within our pastoral team, working directly with students to ensure they feel safe, supported and ready to learn. You will play a vital part in helping young people navigate social, emotional and behavioural challenges, enabling them to thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will contribute directly to this by building meaningful relationships with students and acting as a trusted adult who can provide guidance, challenge and support where needed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing targeted one-to-one and small group support for students facing social, emotional or behavioural challenges
  • Supporting the development of positive behaviour, resilience and self-regulation strategies
  • Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral leaders, families and external agencies to coordinate effective support
  • Monitoring student progress and maintaining accurate, high-quality records in line with safeguarding requirements
  • Contributing to a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where all students can succeed

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrates empathy, resilience and a calm, consistent approach
  • Is passionate about supporting young people and making a tangible difference
  • Can work effectively as part of a team whilst also using their own initiative

Grade 6 - £28792 - £31022 (based on FTE)

  • Experience working with young people in educational or similar settings.
  • Understanding of child development and effective behavior management techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience in challenging situations.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and commitment to student welfare.
