Responsibilities:

  • Organise your workload efficiently to ensure timely and accurate payroll services are delivered to a diverse portfolio of clients each pay period.
  • Process payrolls on behalf of clients from various sectors, ensuring all statutory deductions and company policies are applied correctly.
  • Administer multiple pension schemes accurately, keeping up-to-date with changing regulations and client requirements.
  • Review payrolls prepared by other team members to maintain high standards of accuracy and compliance within the department.
  • Communicate effectively with payroll clients to resolve queries promptly and provide clear guidance on payroll matters.
  • Apply up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation to address client questions confidently and ensure full compliance at all times.
  • Liaise directly with HMRC on behalf of clients regarding submissions, queries or any issues that may arise during the payroll process.
  • Undertake ad-hoc payroll duties as required by the team or management to support smooth operations within the department.
  • Contribute positively to team meetings and share best practices to enhance overall service delivery for clients.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times when handling sensitive employee data or client information.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • A minimum of three years' experience working in payroll administration, ideally gained within an accountancy practice or bureau environment where you have managed multiple client accounts simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in using Sage 50 Payroll software is essential for this role as it forms the backbone of daily operations within the team.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications-particularly Excel-enabling you to handle large datasets efficiently and produce accurate reports for clients or management.
  • Relevant payroll qualification (such as CIPP) or equivalent experience demonstrating thorough understanding of end-to-end payroll processes.
  • Excellent communication skills combined with strong interpersonal abilities that allow you to build rapport quickly with both clients and colleagues alike.
  • Outstanding organisational skills paired with meticulous attention to detail so that deadlines are met without compromising on quality or compliance.
  • A deep awareness of confidentiality requirements when dealing with sensitive employee data or financial information belonging to clients.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure while maintaining high levels of accuracy during busy periods such as month-end or year-end processing cycles.
  • Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively within a team environment where sharing knowledge and supporting others is highly valued.
  • A positive attitude towards continuous learning-willingness to undertake further training or study support provided by the employer.
